The State Board of Education (SBOE) has authority for the review and adoption of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for each subject of the required curriculum. SBOE members nominate educators, parents, business and industry representatives, and employers to serve on the review work groups. This page provides information regarding the 2021 review and revision of the TEKS for career and technical education (CTE).

The SBOE adopted sets of CTE TEKS related to Education and Training; Health Science; Hospitality and Tourism; Law and Public Service; and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics at its November 2021 and April 2022 meetings. Current CTE TEKS are in available in .
Amendments Considered at Second Reading
Amendments considered by the SBOE on Friday, November 19, 2021, for second reading and final adoption of proposed new 19 TAC Chapter 127, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Career Development, Subchapter G, Education and Training; Subchapter I, Health Science; Subchapter J, Hospitality and Tourism; Subchapter M, Law and Public Service; and Subchapter O, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics are available in the document below.
CTE TEKS Review Process

The career and technical education (CTE) Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) review work group drafts are posted for feedback. Feedback will be accepted in response to the CTE TEKS review work group drafts during the review and revision process.
When providing specific comments and recommendations, please identify the program of study in the subject line of the email. For example, in the subject line, please indicate "CTE TEKS Review-Early Learning." Please submit comments to 7m视频 at teks@tea.texas.gov.
Cybersecurity and Programming & Software Final Recommendations, February 2022
The Cybersecurity TEKS work group reconvened in February 2022 to address feedback from business and industry representatives and to finalize its recommendations for revisions to three TEKS-based courses in cybersecurity: Foundations of Cybersecurity; Cybersecurity Capstone; and Digital Forensics.
The Programming & Software Development work group reconvened in February 2022 to discuss opportunities for alignment with the K-8 technology applications TEKS and finalized its recommendations for four courses: Fundamentals of Computer Science and Computer Science I-III.

Cybersecurity Draft Recommendations, January 2022
The Cybersecurity TEKS review work group draft recommendations are presented below. The gap analysis between the current CTE TEKS and industry standards report from SkillsEngine庐 was shared with the work group to inform their recommendations for revisions to the CTE TEKS.

CTE Draft Recommendations, June 2021
The CTE TEKS review work group draft recommendations are presented below. 7m视频 partnered with SkillsEngine庐, an affiliate of Texas State Technical College, to conduct a gap analysis between the current CTE TEKS and industry standards. The gap analysis report was shared with work groups to inform their recommendations for revisions to the CTE TEKS.
CTE TEKS review work groups completed their recommendations for each of the programs of study scheduled for review.

The SBOE's process called for multiple, separate work groups. Nominations to serve on TEKS review work groups were made throughout the review process. The following list includes individuals appointed by the SBOE to serve on the CTE TEKS Review work groups.
2021 CTE TEKS Review Work Groups
Work Groups
Work group applications were submitted to SBOE members for review throughout the revision process. Based on that review, SBOE members made nominations to work groups. 7m视频 notified applicants of their nominations at each stage in the review and revision process.
- Work group members were expected to complete an online orientation session prior to their work group meeting. Work group members were asked to complete an initial review prior to their meeting.
- Work groups convened in Austin for a minimum of one face-to-face meeting. Meeting times and dates for the different work groups were shared with the SBOE's members for each work group meeting. Additional meetings conducted by webinar were scheduled as necessary.
- Work group members were asked to provide invited testimony at SBOE meetings.
- Work group members were reimbursed in accordance with state travel guidelines for travel, meals, and lodging for meetings held in Austin.
